I was also one of many that was totally killing the ball with ZONE...Then I decided to tinker with all the player options and give TIMED hitting a chance..and I have been VERY impressed with it 
, Im hitting the ball to all parts of the field, Im seeing high choppers, slow grounders , seeing eye singles, doubles down the lines.. ECT.. ECT
Im also striking out and even being patient and getting some walks
Here`s what you do to get very realistic results .......
#1 Play on HOF
#2 Turn off the strike zone when batting....so you have to be your own judge on pitch location
#3 Turn off Batting and Pitching aids...For added realism
#4 Use manual fielding
#5 Use the fastest pitch speed available....
Doing all this will give you very challenging and close games with timed hitting
My first 3 games with this set up W 1-0 W 5-4 in 11 innings and L 3-2..and Im not a rookie I have been playing ASB on the highest level for 3 yrs and Im finding this combination to be a challenge
Im sure there are lots of people that will find this still to easy, but for the rest of us that want an alternative to ZONE and hate cursors....It`s a answer
